Our shared belief

We are Jews who live in the Hastings area and who stand for justice for Palestinians and for peace, safety and dignity for all who live between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. 

 

Like most people in the world, we are appalled and heartbroken at the carnage being carried out by Israel on the people of Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank.

 

Israel and far too many in the Jewish Establishment claim that this is being done in our name and even, bizarrely, to make the world safer for Jews.  But we reject this. We hold to the Jewish values of pursuing justice and that every life matters.  The lessons we take from the centuries of prejudice, oppression, ghettoisation, pogroms and industrialised murder of Jews in the Nazi Holocaust are that we must always “stand with the oppressed and never the oppressor”.  

 

We understand why many felt the need for a Jewish homeland, especially after the horrors of the Holocaust that murdered two thirds of Europe’s Jews but even at the time many saw that this was not a solution to antisemitism, especially if it meant displacing others the Palestinian people who had lived there for generations. 

 

We want people to know that those who claim to speak for Jews do not represent us or the growing numbers of Jewish people across the UK and the world who campaign for an end to the genocidal pulverisation of Gaza; an end to the occupation; an end to the siege.
